XV Shakespearian Festival

This year, the 14th Shakespearian Festival will be held from 30 July to 8 August 2010. During the event, three Polish performances will be presented. These performances were nominated for the award in the Best Staging of William Shakespeare' Dramatic Work contest in the artistic season 2009/2010. This year, the competition will be organised differently. Three chosen contest performances will be invited and the final verdict will be made during the Festival. Also foreign performances will be invited, which come from different cultures: Great Britain, Germany, Lithuania, Romania, Hungary, Armenia and Zimbabwe.

Certainly, very interesting will be two performances of great Lithuanian director from Vilnius, Oskaras Korsunovas- “Midsummer Night's Dream” and “Hamlet”, as well as French performances of Irina Brook (daughter of a great theatrical director Peter Brook)- “The Tempest” and “Waiting for a dream”. Second time we will present the performance of Ryutopia Noh-theatre from Japan, which in 2008 presented great “The Winter’s Tale” directed by Yoshihiro Kurita. This year the same director will present “Hamlet”. A real treat, for those who appreciate true craftsmanship on stage, will be the presentation of monodrama "Now entertain… William Shakespeare" prepared by Juliusz Słowacki Theatre Kraków and with an excellent role of Andrzej Seweryn. The major event of the Festival will be also one of the most interesting Romanian Shakespearian performace of recent years, recommended by Romanian Cultural Institute in Warsaw, “The Tempest” by Toma Caragiu Theatre Ploiesti. There will also be presented “As ypu like it” by a renowned Romanian director Attila Vidnyánszky, produced by the Hungary-Ukraine cooperation of theatres: Castle Theatre Gyula, Hungarian Theatre Beregszász, and Csokonai Theatre Debrecen.

Additionaly, the Shakespearian Festival will be taken out into Pomeranian region. This year, within the "Shakespeare in the Neighbourhood" project, Wejherowo and Pruszcz Gdańsi were invited to cooperate. These cities will host stagings of a very interesting work of Two Gents Productions „Hamlet / Kupenga kwa Hamlet”. The same group will show another performance during the Festival: “Vakomana Vaviri ve Zimbabwe or Two Gentlemen of Verona”. Both are directed by German director Arne Pohlmeier. The performances will be accompanied by interesting workshops with the actors and producers of the play.
